EHAS endeavors to be an inclusive and collaborative partner in the Kalamazoo county as its primary focus, and secondly to extend its reach throughout the State of Michigan. It is our goal to partner with allied organizations who value and understand the intersectionality of class, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and accessibility and its impact on Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. We achieve these goals and mission from a lens of equity and antiracism. We are committed to creating a community where every home and person knows they are valued and worthy. Therefore, housing is a human right, not a need, or a desire.

The majority of Americans experiencing homelessness are not pan-handlers. In fact, they are children.
While a great deal of benefits are included in the GI Bill, our veterans represent nearly 10% of the housing insecure population.
Gender pay gaps exist, but men represent close to 60% of people experiencing homelessness. Housing insecurity is a non-biased chronic issue that effects all of our communities.
Drug and alcohol abuse requires support and trained professional help, however, housing insecurities are not exclusive to any one type of person.
There are several factors at play when a person is able to secure employment but not housing. Current housing rates are not congruent with hourly wages, and working multiple jobs does not mean the housing options are within their financial means.
